A Community Shed for Moretonhampstead

Have you heard of the “Men in Sheds” movement? Originally aimed at improving the mental health and physical wellbeing of men, the Sheds (or Workshops) have been springing up all over the country, and beyond. The nearest to us is the Okehampton Men in Sheds, where it has been successful at providing a meeting place for men to get together to do light work and meet new friends.

Although there could be specific days just for men, we would like ours to serve the whole community regardless of age or gender. The aim is to fit out a workshop for learning and practising activities such as

·         Carpentry

·         Metal working

·         Tool maintenance

·         DIY skills

·         Furniture making / repair

·         Cycle maintenance

This would vary according to the skills of the members who use it.

If we could open a Community Workshop like this in Moretonhampstead, we could use it for projects that would benefit the community, and to make, repair and sell items that could be sold for charitable causes.

Interested?

We have a couple of sites in mind, and we may have to purchase the property. Naturally we need to put funding together to pay it, however. To help us, please do get in touch if

·         You or someone you know would be interested in using the Shed

·         You would be willing to join our Steering Group to plan it

·         You would like to invest some cash in the property
