celebrating carnival
2023
In 2023, Wellmoor worked on a Heritage Lottery funded project to celebrate Moretonhampstead Carnival, in partnership with MED Theatre and arts education organisation Daisi.
The project involved art and drama workshops with young people, exploring young people’s attitudes to Carnival. Together we created two, large and permanent art works which are now displayed in the local Youth Club.
The Moretonhampstead History Society gathered reflections, videos, photos and memorabilia from previous Carnival’s for their archives.
All the events leading up to Carnival week and the big day itself were been captured by local film-maker Steve Coxon.
Carnival Film Screening in partnership with Moretonhampstead History Society
We were very excited to announce that a Carnival Film Screening would be held on Saturday 9th of December. Local film maker Steve Coxon had edited a whopping 90 hours of footage into an hour-long film, following the build up to and celebration of Moretonhampstead Carnival 2023.
The screening included an earlier matinee for families as well as a later evening screening, with refreshments on sale. The event was a huge success and was the perfect excuse for further celebrations.
