Green Spaces

Staff across Wellmoor and the Moretonhampstead Development Trust want to provide as many green spaces as possible in the local area - for helping the environment, providing places to socialise, and to offer events and learning of green skills.

The following areas are all spaces which we support and aim to maintain - read on to see how you can get involved.

Community Orchard

The community orchard is a wonderful space which can be accessed off the Wray Valley Trail.

The orchard and path form part of a circular route to the town, and are open to visitors all year round.

This space holds lots of community events throughout the year, including wassailing, pruning and hedgelaying workshops, planting days and education sessions, so keep an eye out on our calendar and what’s on page to see when there are events you can attend.

If you fancy getting more involved, we always welcome volunteers who can help maintain the orchard and also to pick and eat apples! Just email penny@wellmoor,org,uk or give us a call on 01647 478 378 to learn more.

Community Water Meadow

The community water meadow is a newly established space alongside the Wray Valley Trail. We’ve already planted some trees and hope to create a pond which will attract butterflies, dragonflies and increase wildlife habitat.

Whilst the meadow isn’t open to public in order to protect the plants and wildlife, you can view it from the Wray Valley Trail and see all the hard work which is going on to create this new wildlife space.

If the Water Meadow sounds like a place you’d like to get involved in, we’re open to volunteers to join our working group - meeting 3 times a year to help clear some of the brambles, maintain the brook and plant meadow flowers.
