Movemoor

Movemoor was a 12 week programme of weekly virtual strength and balance classes.

The sessions were taught by local instructor Clare Parker from All Dancing, and they focussed on building core strength and improving balance and muscle tone, using gentle chair-based exercises. The participants were elderly local residents, and residents of Coppelia Care Home in Moretonhampstead.

The outcome of the classes was positive, with several participants remarking on the improvement in their balance and movement, and the enjoyment of the social aspect of the sessions too. As the technology used to connect to the sessions was new to all participants, we felt it was important to give the participants guidance in setting up the devices and getting connected to the sessions. A Wellmoor representative gave in-person guidance to set up the devices, and there was then continued support from a remote facilitator during the sessions. We found that the ability to monitor the energy levels and discern the ability of the participants was initially difficult to do in a remote session, but the instructor regularly asked the participants how they were feeling and asked them to report their energy levels out of 5, to make sure the activity level was tailored to their needs.
