Strength & Balance Classes

In 2024, we supported 47 people through our Strength & Balance classes across Devon, and we’re excited to continue offering these opportunities in the future.

What’s involved?

Our Strength & Balance classes focus on helping those at risk of falling, or who are fearful of falling, to improve their balance and confidence. We guide you through exercises that enhance balance and teach safe ways to get up after a fall. With our support, we hope you’ll increase your independence and reduce the chances of falling. 

Primarily aimed at those over the age of 65, our Strength & Balance sessions are based on the FaME (Falls and Management Exercise) programme. All sessions are led by a qualified Postural Stability Instructor and facilitated by a member of the Wellmoor team. 

Each class lasts an hour and a half, including time for refreshments and socialising. Classes usually run weekly for 12 weeks, with small group sizes to ensure sessions are tailored to each participant’s needs. Before the programme starts, you’ll receive a thorough assessment to help you get the most from the classes. 

This programme is fully endorsed by GPs and physiotherapists at Moretonhampstead and Okehampton Health Centres. Referrals for sessions can be made both via GPs and self-referrals from participants or their families.
